Embry-Riddle Holds Off Men's Basketball In Season Opener

Sophomore Marcus Bast recorded a career-high 20 points to lead the River Otters

PORTLAND, Ore.—Lewis & Clark College men's basketball erased a 14-point, first-half deficit, but fell 87-79 to Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) on Saturday night in their 2025-26 season opener.Ā

HOW IT HAPPENED

The River Otters debuted a new roster and new style of play in head coach Shanan Rosenberg's first game at the helm, as the two teams raced up-and-down the court in a high-scoring affair at Pamplin Gymnasium. The game also marked the program's first contest under the school's new nickname.Ā 
Ā 
Sophomore Marcus Bast scored a team and career-high 20 points in nearly 28 minutes of action. He finished 6-8 from the from the field and tied for the team-high with three made 3-pointers. Bast also led the team with five assists.Ā

Senior Justin White added 17 points and seven rebounds. White went 8-15 from the field and added a steal and a block.Ā

Seniors Kody Uyesugi and Andre Treadwell joined Bast and White in double-figures. Uyesugi went 4-8 from the field and finished with 13 points, five rebounds and three assists. Treadwell tacked on 11 points on 4-10 shooting and drained three 3-pointers.Ā

Embry-Riddle, who improved to 5-0 on the season, jumped out to a hot start in the contest. They jumped out to a 19-5 lead in the first four minutes and hit eight of their 15 3-pointers in the first half.Ā

Lewis & Clark would work their way back into the game. The River Otters used a 7-3 run to close out the half down just eight points (47-39).Ā

Embry-Riddle would extend their lead back to double-digits early in the second half at 55-44. Treadwell hit a 3-pointer with 16:46 to cut the deficit to 55-47 and it would mark the last time the visitors would lead by double-figures.Ā

Lewis & Clark tied the game at 62 just past the midway point of the second stanza. Bast hit a layup off an Eagles turnover and Uyesugi buried a deep 3-pointer to tie the game for the first time since it was 0-0.Ā

Embry-Riddle immediately countered with a 7-0 run to take a 69-62 lead with 7:43 to play. Lewis & Clark would trim the deficit to one possession on three occasions but Embry-Riddle answered with a basket on their next trip down the floor all three times.Ā

BY THE NUMBERSĀ 
  • Lewis & Clark finished the game shooting 46.9 percent (30-64) and hit 12 of their 26 3-point attempts (46.2 percent). The River Otters went 7-8 from the free-throw line (87.5 percent).Ā 
  • Bast more than doubled his collegiate-high in points. He scored eight points against Portland Bible College exactly one year ago (November 8, 2024).Ā 
  • The River Otters outscored Embry-Riddle 32-26 in points in the paint and 15-10 on second-chance points.Ā 
  • Junior transfer Shemar O'Roy-Ford made his Lewis & Clark debut in the contest. He finished with a rebound, an assist and a steal in seven minutes.Ā Ā
