The Lewis and Clark swim teams fell to The Whitman Missionaries
in their final home meet of the 2007-08 season on Saturday
afternoon with scores of 112-92 for the women and 141-49 for the
men. (Results)
The Pioneer women won five of eleven events which was not enough
to overcome the Missionary women's six of eleven wins. Koy Collier
(junior, Wailuku, HI) was the only Pioneer, male or female, to win
multiple events with a first place time in both the 50 and 100
free. Claire Jordan (freshman, Edmonds, WA) swam an impressive 500
free, taking the top spot in that event after losing to second
place swimmer Elizabeth Roberson in the 1650 free. In an extremely
close 400 medley relay, the Missionary women pulled out a win with
a time of 4:15.17 over the Pioneer's time of 4:15.60. The
Missionaries spread their remaining five wins amongst five
different swimmers.
For the Pioneer men, Justin Lawton (senior, Tokyo, Japan),
swimming in his final home meet as a member of the Lewis and Clark
swim team, had the lone win in the 100 free. The Missionary men,
much like their women's team, also put forth a team effort winning
ten of eleven events, two of them relays and spreading the
remaining eight wins amongst seven different swimmers. Ysbrand
Nusse was the only Missionary to win multiple events, placing first
in the 50 free and 200 back.
The Pioneers next compete in Tacoma, Washington against the
Pacific Lutheran Lutes at 6pm on January 18th.
