Wheeler Sports Center's Miller Gym. The Pioneers battled
strong for a 25-23 win in the first set before cruising to a 25-19

end with the Pios earning a 26-24 win over the Bruins.
Sophomore Jenn Dowdy finished with 14 kills for the Pios, while
Leia Matsunaga dished out 35 assists. Senior Lou Ohki returned to
the line-up to lead the team with 14 digs, after sitting out the

George Fox used an early 6-0 run to jump ahead to a 9-5 lead in
the first set. The Pioneers responded with a 12-5 stretch to take
its largest lead at 17-14, courtesy of five kills and an ace from

the remainder of the set, but would never be able to pull ahead.
Lewis & Clark finished things after a 23-23 deadlock with kills
from Matsunaga and junior Margaret Dowling.
The Pioneers did what they had to to win the second set, taking
full advantage of Bruin errors. The Pio defense limited the Bruins
to only a .059 hitting percentage while the home team committed
nine attacking errors. The Bruins held an early lead once again,
but the Pios broke through to tie things 9-9. Hoff, who came up
with back-to-back aces, gave the Pioneers its largest lead at
24-16. Freshman Alicia Callejo-Black ended the set for the Pios for
the 25-19 win.
Unlike the first two sets, the Pioneers were the ones who came
out on top early, but it was short lived as the Bruins bounced back
on a 10-3 run to take a 16-12 lead. The Pioneers fought back to
forge four ties before George Fox took the lead at 24-23. Dowling
answered with a winner for the Pios on set point, and then
completed the sweep with a kill by Fiedler and a Bruin attacking
error.
The Pioneers return to the court on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m.
when they head to McMinnville to face the Linfield Wildcats.
