GAME TWO
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark baseball team split its double-header against Whitman on Saturday. The Missionaries won the first game 9-3, before the Pioneers collected a 7-3 win. The Pio victory earned them a series win with the team taking two of the three Northwest Conference contests.
GAME ONE
The Pioneers fell behind 5-0 after just two innings and were never able to come back. Whitman tallied three runs in the first inning, before tacking on two more in the top of the second.
Lewis & Clark responded with two runs in the bottom of the third on a triple by Bradley Lezak that scored Matthew Cathcart and Evan Gray.
Whitman would limit the Pios momentum, stretching its lead to 7-2 with two more runs in the top of the fifth, courtesy of an RBI single by Jimmy Madden and RBI double from Riley Rockwell.
The Missionaries added two more runs in the eighth and ninth inning to secure the win.
GAME TWO
Andrew Traver put the Pioneers ahead for the first time all day with an RBI single up the middle that scored Eric Hyun to start the contest in the bottom of the first.
The Pioneers held a 1-0 lead all the way up to the fifth inning, where they tagged on their final six runs. Geoff Wertz got things going with a bases-loaded double that brought in two. Michael Kinkenon brought in the next two runs with a bases-loaded single to left center, brining in Wertz and Lezak. Traver capped things off with a double down the left line.
Whitman finally got on the board in the eighth inning with a triple to right that cut the Pioneers lead to 7-2. A solo homerun in the ninth was the closest that the Missionaries would get to pulling out the win.
The Pioneers hit the road for their next NWC series, traveling to Spokane, Wash. to take on the Whitworth Missionaries on April 6-7.
