PORTLAND, Ore. – Lewis & Clark College women's soccer struck first and had a 1-0 lead heading into halftime, but Whitman College scored two second half goals in a span of nine minutes to take the Northwest Conference game 2-1 at Griswold Stadium Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Lewis & Clark held a 1-0 lead and fired off seven shots in the game before Whitman even got their first attempt at putting the ball toward the net.
Chloe Helenihi had the first look for the Pioneers at 1:14 into the game, but the grad student's shot from inside the box sailed wide right. Senior

Abby Hayes, and sophomore
Kate Meinhard combined for four more shots over the next 10 minutes that all missed wide.
Helenihi made a move at 28:25 as Whitman keeper Hannah Hagler came off her line. Helenihi's left-footed shot was blocked by a Blues defender and bounced off the near post, but senior
Celeste Schreifels followed up with her own left-footer and put the ball in the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season.
Sophomore
Carson Warfield attempted to score her third free-kick goal of the season in the 32
nd minute, but Hagler earned her first save of the game on the shot.
Pioneers senior keeper
Sophia Young saw her first threat from Whitman right before halftime when Gracia Larson booted a shot from just inside the box to the middle of the net, to give Young the first of her five saves in the game.

The Blues' Leah Barnes scored the equalizer goal at 60:53 on an assist by Lindsay Honhart and Chaney Heinbaugh. Heinbaugh scored the unassisted game-winner for the Blues in the 70
th minute of the game.
Freshman
Grace Smith came off the bench to challenge Hagler for an equalizer in the 81
st minute but her shot from distance went straight into the hands of the Blues keeper.
Bodeen, Schreifels, and Warfield all attempted to tie the game and earn a point in the final minutes, but were unable to convert.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Schreifels goal today moved her into a program 10-way tie for 15th place with five goals in a season, her 14th point of the season ties her for 14th place with Emily Thompson (2012).
- Smith (13), Warfield (10), and Helenihi (8) are 3-5 on the team for shots on target trailing Megan Yanagi (19) and Schreifels (16).
- Young has a 1.55 goals against average this season, which is the 10th best in program history for GAA in a season for a Pioneer keeper.
- The Pioneers outshot the Blues 8-1 in the first half, but were outshot 7-4 in the second.
