Driskill's Brace Leads Women's Soccer Past Boxers

Carli Driskill scored two goals in less than six minutes in the second half

PORTLAND, Ore.—Junior Carli Driskill scored two goals in less than six minutes, midway through the second half, to help Lewis & Clark College women's soccer earn a thrilling 2-1 comeback win over visiting Pacific University.

THE BASICS
Lewis & Clark 2, Pacific 1
(Lewis & Clark 4-5-2, Northwest Conference 2-4-1)
(Pacific 1-9-3, NWC 1-7-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Driskill's two goals helped Lewis & Clark snap a five-game winless streak (0-4-1) and earn their second conference win of the season. The junior came into the contest with one goal and one assist in 35 career games but more than doubled her career goal and point total in a 5:38 span of the second half.

First year Siena Flock recorded an assist on the opening goal for her first collegiate assist/point.

Junior goalie Anna Ingadottir picked up her first win of the season after making two saves on three shots.

Lewis & Clark came out on the front foot and looked like they had a chance to dominate the visiting Boxers. The Pioneers generated three shots and two corner kicks in the opening 12 minutes and had the vast majority of the chances. First year Juliette Miller nearly opened the scoring in the sixth minute when she came in all alone on the keeper but her shot from the edge of the box was tipped just wide by Pacific goalie Kylie Pascual.

Pacific managed to take the lead on their first shot and only shot on target of the half. Against the run of play, Rhyah Jackson found Mirella Garcia inside the box and Garcia's right-footed shot was partially stopped but kept rolling and went off the inside of the post and in.

Lewis & Clark struggled to regain the momentum and found themselves trailing 1-0 into the 60th minute.

Driskill turned the tide when she scored her first goal at 62:37. Flock sent a low cross into the box from the far side and Driskill knocked it down and quickly sent a low shot inside the near post for a 1-1 tie.

The Pioneers grabbed the lead at 68:15 thanks to Megan Yanagi and Driskill. Yanagi couldn't reach a pass out wide but instead of giving up on the play the junior raced towards the sideline and dove to just barely kept in. A Pacific player assumed the ball had gone out and picked up the ball with her hands – forcing the referee to call a hand ball. Lewis & Clark took advantage of the free kick as Driskill lofted a ball towards the back post and amidst a sea of bodies the ball went off the back of a Boxers players head and in for a 2-1 lead.

Lewis & Clark kept attacking and generated multiple shots from Yanagi and another from Mischa Vanek.

The Pioneers defense limited Pacific to just one shot over the final 22+ minutes, with Rissa Hara's shot from distance going well over the crossbar.
