HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
Junior goalie
Micaiah Garan made a pair of excellent second-half saves to secure the shutout and help Lewis & Clark earn their second result in as many weeks on their home turf.Â
Â
Garan made six saves to earn his second-career shutout and first since the 2023 season. The junior notched three saves in each half to help Lewis & Clark pick up their third tie in 10 home games this season.Â
Â
The Pioneers back four of
Aleister Alfstad,
Emmett Olson,
Talen Haywood and
Ren Fukuoka all played 85 or more minutes and did a phenomenal job of limiting Puget Sound's chances.Â
Â
First year
Brody Kennedy came off the bench to start the second half and played a part in the Pioneers' best chances of the game. Senior
Aashir Walson, junior
Dylan Weinstein, sophomore
Alex Woods and Kennedy each posted one shot on goal.Â
Â
After a back-and-forth first 40 minutes, both teams created their best chances of the first half in the final five minutes.Â
Â
Alonzo Flores-Barajas turned in the box and fired a shot off the post for the Loggers in the 44
th minute. Weinstein followed with Lewis & Clark's lone shot on goal of the first half, when he got redirected a cross in the final 30 seconds of the first half.Â
Â
Lewis & Clark came out of halftime on the front foot. They posted four of their eight shots in the first six minutes of the half and two of their four shots on goal.Â
Â
Woods forced the first save from Luke Mamiya in the 49
th minute. Less than a minute later, Kennedy received a cross in the box and sent a right-footed shot that Mamiya was only able to parry up and off the bar, the rebound fell to Weinstein but his shot went just over the crossbar.Â
Â
Weinstein sent a second look in the 51
st minute when his shot from distance dipped and hit off the top of the crossbar.Â
Â
Garan made a pair of excellent reaction saves in the final 35 minutes. He denied Edgar Tamayo Gallegos with a diving save to his right to keep the score 0-0 in the 57
th minute.Â
Â
Garan registered his best save of the day in the 70
th minute. The Loggers used some pinpoint passing to create space and Flores-Barajas received a pass on the edge of the box with no one around him. Garan and the Pioneers defense were out of position, but Garan dove back to his left and made a toe save to stun the Loggers who thought they had the go-ahead goal.Â
Â
The intensity would pick up from there but neither team could find the go-ahead goal. The teams combined for seven fouls and two yellow cards in the final 15 minutes.Â
