SPOKANE, Wash.—Host Whitworth University scored two first-half goals, to earn a 2-0 win over visiting Lewis & Clark College men's soccer on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Johny Cortez and Dominic Gusman scored goals 14:27 apart in the first half, to lift the Pirates to their eighth shutout win of the season.

Micaiah Garan made two saves on four shots for Lewis & Clark. The four shots on goal allowed by the Pioneers defense is tied for the fewest this season.

Dylan Weinstein tied for the Pioneers team-high with two shots apiece. Weinstein recorded the team's lone shot on target. Sophomores

Alex Woods all added one shot.
Whitworth grabbed the lead in the 11
th minute. Gusman sent a long ball ahead to Jordan Voigt. The senior flicked the ball on to Cortez in the middle of the box and he calmly finished to make it 1-0 at 10:14.
Gusman made it 2-0 at 24:41. The graduate student drew a foul in the box and sent a low shot into the bottom left-corner for his team-leading eighth goal of the season.
After being outshot 5-0 through the first 25 minutes, Lewis & Clark would match the Pirates over the final 65 minutes. Both teams would post seven shots across the final 65 minutes of action.
Weinstein posted the team's first shot moments after the Pirates second goal and Gunderson and Woods notched back-to-back looks in the 36
th and 37
th minutes.
Lewis & Clark garnered their best chance of the game in the 79
th minute. Whitworth's Johnny Finnegan was issued a red card for a foul just outside the box. Haywood stepped up to take the free kick but his shot went just over the bar to keep the score 2-0.
