PORTLAND, Ore. — Lewis & Clark College women's basketball used a dominant fourth quarter to secure an 80-74 victory over Linfield University on Saturday night at Pamplin Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Sophomore
Lauryn Frederickson led all scorers with 23 points and eight rebounds, while first-year
Kaitlen Carns added a career-high 19 points and six rebounds. Carns was a perfect 3-for-3 from behind the arc and scored 12 points in the first quarter. Frederickson shot a career-best 75% (9-for-12) from the field, despite scoring only five points in the first half.
Junior
Tatiana Rebanal contributed a season-high 13 points, including two crucial three-pointers, and went a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor. Sophomore
Madilyn Palosi added 10 points, while fellow sophomore
Divinity Singleton chipped in nine and four rebounds.
With the game tied at 13-all, junior
Madelyn Sanchez hit a turnaround jumper to ignite a 9-2 Lewis & Clark run. Carns then scored the next seven points for the Pioneers, capping the run with a three-pointer at the 2:34 mark to give them a 22-15 lead. However, Linfield responded with a 10-0 run to close the quarter and took a 25-22 advantage.
Lewis & Clark trailed 37-32 midway through the second quarter before Rebanal scored seven straight points to put the Pioneers ahead 39-37. The teams entered halftime tied at 40.
Linfield built a lead after the break, maintaining a five-to-seven-point cushion throughout most of the third quarter. However, a free throw from Carns and a layup by Frederickson cut the Wildcats' lead to 57-53 heading into the final period.
The Wildcats opened the fourth quarter strong, extending their largest lead of the game to 65-56 just two minutes in. The Pioneers responded with a 17-2 run, led by Frederickson and Palosi, to take a 73-67 advantage with 2:31 remaining. Lewis & Clark secured the victory by sinking five free throws in the final minute, including four consecutive makes from Frederickson and Carns.
Amelia Solt led Linfield with 18 points, Allie Mead added 15, and Miki Vermeulen contributed 12 points and eight rebounds for the Wildcats.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Rebanal, Sanchez, and Singleton each recorded four rebounds, while sophomore Isabella Bernard grabbed three boards.
- The Pioneers shot 51.7% from the field (31-for-60)—their best shooting performance of the season. The last time they shot 50% or better in an NWC game was against Whitworth on January 4, 2019.
- Sanchez, Bernard, and sophomore DJ Kendrick rounded out the scoring with two points each.
- Linfield, previously in sole possession of second place in the NWC, is now in a three-way tie with Puget Sound and George Fox.
