Second-Half Run Leads Men's Basketball Past Whitman In NWC Title Rematch

Lewis & Clark used a 17-3 run to grab control of the game

PORTLAND, Ore.—Lewis & Clark College men's basketball used a 17-3 run midway through the second half to take control and cruised to a 78-61 win over Whitman College in a rematch of the 2025 Northwest Conference Championship Game.

THE BASICS

Lewis & Clark 78, Whitman 61
(Lewis & Clark 8-6, NWC 4-1)
(Whitman 6-8, NWC 1-4)

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the first meeting between the two teams since last year's NWC Title Game, seven River Otters finished with six or more points to lead Lewis & Clark to a third-straight win over the Blues.

The two teams combined for 17 lead changes and six ties until Lewis & Clark took control over a 5:33 span of the second half. The hosts went from being tied 47-47 to leading by 14 (64-50) during the scoring spree. Six different River Otters scored during the run with junior transfers Joe Brown and Yigit Arcan each chipping in four points apiece. Whitman would never get closer than 10 points the rest of the way.

Senior Andre Treadwell scored 10 of his team-high 17 points in the second half to lead all Lewis & Clark players. Treadwell went 5-10 from the field, 4-6 from deep and added five rebounds and three steals.

Senior Justin White handled the large and physical Blues frontcourt extremely well. He posted 14 points, seven rebounds, four steals and two blocks and managed to finish the game with just three fouls in 30 minutes of action.

Senior Kody Uyesugi and Arcan each finished with 11 points apiece. Uyesugi hit 4-8 shots and knocked down 3-5 3-point attempts. Arcan, who faced a bevy of players from his home country of Turkey, added 11 points and five rebounds.

Senior Taien Jackson, Brown and sophomore Marcus Bast all added valuable secondary scoring. Jackson constantly attacked the basket and posted nine points on 4-8 shooting. Brown tacked on seven points in nearly 20 minutes of action off the bench. Bast added six points, three rebound and a team-high four assists.

Whitman's Ali Efe Isik led all players with 24 points but finished 9-20 from the field.

The first half saw the teams combine for 15 lead changes and three ties. Neither side would lead by more than six points and Lewis & Clark went into the break leading 36-33. Jackson went on a 6-0 run by himself to finish the half - to turn a 33-30 deficit with 2:51 remaining into a three-point lead.
The second half looked destined to be more of the same seesaw battle through the first six minutes. The two teams posted four lead changes and four ties through the first 5:57 of action.

Bast gave Lewis & Clark the lead for good with an offensive rebound and a layup to make it 49-47 with 13:11 to play. Treadwell followed with a 3-pointer on the next possession and Brown added a layup to give Lewis & Clark their largest lead of the game (54-47) with 12:05 remaining. Arcan added a layup to extend the run to 9-0, before Whitman temporarily stopped the bleeding with a free throw and a layup (56-50).

Lewis & Clark would add an 8-0 run from there to put the game away. Brown hit another layup and then Donovan Beard stole the inbounds and scored to push the lead to 60-50. Arcan added a layup and White put an exclamation point on the run with a dunk off a steal. All of a sudden Lewis & Clark found themselves leading 64-50 with 8:30 to go.

Whitman cut the deficit to 10 on two occasions but both times Lewis & Clark immediately went on a mini-run. The River Otters closed the game on a 7-0 spurt to claim their biggest win over the Blues since 2015.
