Lacrosse Rolls Past Linfield To Improve To 3-0

The River Otters outscored Linfield 7-0 in the second quarter to blow the game open

MCMINNVILLE, Ore.—First year goalie Phoebe Labuhn posted 14 saves and first year Ala Cross and junior Sage Swegle scored six goals apiece, to lead Lewis & Clark College women's lacrosse past Linfield 18-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Lewis & Clark exploded for seven goals in the second quarter to grab an 11-2 lead and never looked back to start 3-0 for a second-straight season. 
 
Labuhn, who was making her first collegiate start, posted 14 saves on 21 shots to post her first collegiate victory. The first year posted eight of her saves in the first quarter to keep Lewis & Clark in control and stopped 11 of the first 13 shots she faced. 
 
Cross posted a career-high eight points to continue her stellar start to the season. The first year posted a career-high six goals and two assists. Swegle matched Cross with a season-high six goals and put all seven of her shots on target. 
 
Senior Kate Meinhard, junior Finley Allen and sophomore Mack Searle each added two goals apiece. Meinhard led the River Otters with six draw controls, four ground balls and four caused turnovers. Allen and Searle each registered two assists and Searle chipped in five draw controls. 
 
Linfield kept the game close through the opening 15 minutes. Lewis & Clark grabbed an early 2-0 lead behind goals from Swegle and Allen. The hosts responded with a pair of goals to tie the game at 2-2 with 4:29 left in the first quarter. Lewis & Clark scored two goals in the final three minutes of the stanza to grab a 4-2 lead. Meinhard made it 3-2 with 2:37 left and Cross scored her first goal with 43 seconds left in the quarter. 
 
Cross helped Lewis & Clark dominate the second quarter. The first year scored four of her six goals in the second stanza to help Lewis & Clark open up an 11-4 lead. After failing to score in the opening six minutes of the quarter, the River Otters scored seven goals in a 7:02 span with Swegle, Allen and Meinhard each adding one goal. 
 
Linfield cut the deficit to seven on two occasions (11-4 and 14-7), but Lewis & Clark responded back with multiple goals of their own both times. Swegle scored back-to-back goals in a 13-second span late in the third to push the lead back to 13-4. Swegle also keyed a 4-0 run to close out the game to extend the lead out to 18-7. 
 
BY THE NUMBERS 
  • Sophomore Kaedance Stubbs recorded her first collegiate assists and finished second on the team with three caused turnovers.
  • Lewis & Clark finished the game with a 29-26 edge in shots and a 14-10 lead in draw controls. The River Otters went 12-13 on clear attempts and 2-5 on the man-up. 
  • Junior Gloria Meehan and Allen each notched two caused turnovers and Allen added two draw controls. 
  • With the win, Lewis & Clark improves to 2-2 all-time against the Wildcats. Wednesday's meeting was the first meeting between the two teams in McMinnville. 
  • Cross has recorded at least a hat trick in all three of her collegiate games. The first year leads Lewis & Clark with 13 goals and 17 points.

Lewis & Clark will kick off a three-game homestand next Thursday, when they host Aurora University at 6 p.m.
