SALEM, Ore. – The Lewis & Clark women's soccer team beat the Willamette Bearcats 3-1 on Wednesday, Oct. 10th at Sparks field. The Pioneers previously hosted the Bearcats on Sept. 12th and lost in a heartbreaking double overtime.

The Pioneers move up to 4-6-2 on the season, and 4-3-2 in Northwest Conference (NWC) play. The Bearcats fall to 4-8-1 on the season, and 2-6-1 in NWC play.

Lewis & Clark's Anna Thorndike found the back of the net first, in the fourth minute, capitalizing off a free kick taken by Emilia Emmetti. Thorndike placed a header into the right side of the goal from Emmetti's assist.  

The Bearcats came back to tie the game in the 16th minute, with a goal by Paige Lancourt off an assist from Ariel Wilson into an open net.

Both teams were tied for number of shots taken in the first half, but the Pioneers came back onto the field for the second half with renewed vengeance. In the second half, Lewis & Clark outshot Willamette 10-5.

Pioneer Taylor Hudson scored first in the second half, shooting from close to the goal in the middle in the 67th minute, after a cross from the right by Kylie Carera.

Lewis & Clark then kept their momentum going in the 86th minute, when Emily Thompson found the back of the net from an assist from Carera.

The Pioneers ended with 16 shots, 11 of which were on goal. Leading Lewis & Clark was Thompson with six shots, five of which were on goal.

Lewis & Clark's next contest is at Linfield on Saturday, Oct. 13th at 12 p.m.
