HOW IT HAPPENED
Ā
The Panthers used a seven-run bottom of the sixth inning in game one to complete their comeback and then scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth of game two to seal the sweep.Ā
Ā
Junior Harper Campanella and first year Kodie Ancheta paced the River Otters offensively. Campanella recorded two hits in each game and Ancheta added three hits, three runs and an RBI.Ā
Ā
GAME ONE RECAPĀ
Ā
Lewis & Clark led 3-0 after four innings but the Panthers scored eight runs in their final two at-bats to stun the River Otters in the opener.Ā
Ā
Seniors Gina Ozuna and Emily Patton and Campanella all posted two hits in game one. Ozuna went 2-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Patton and Campanella each went 2-4 and Campanella chipped in an RBI.Ā
Ā
Junior Makena Dahir belted a two-run double and Ancheta tacked on a base hit, two runs and an RBI.Ā
Ā
In the circle, senior Maggie O'Leary was charged with 12 hits, one walk and eight earned runs in six innings pitched. She struck out four in her second start of the year.Ā
Ā
For the second-straight day, Lewis & Clark got off to a fast start. Ancheta reached on a lead-off error and took second when Madison Scroggins put down a bunt single. After a Campanella fly out moved both runners over with two down, Dahir ripped a double to left-center to make it 2-0.Ā
Ā
Lewis & Clark added a single run in the fourth. Lacey Marglin led off with a single and took second on a McKenna Zehnder sac bunt. With two outs, Ozuna laced a single through the middle to score Marglin from second.Ā
Ā
O'Leary was cruising through the first four innings. She allowed just one hit through the first three frames. In the fourth, she gave up back-to-back singles with two outs but then struck out the next batter for her second punch out of the inning.Ā
Ā
The Panthers cut the deficit to 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth. Emily Tome singled, stole second and scored on a two-out RBI single.
Ā
Chapman took control of the game with a seven-run sixth inning. The hosts scored all seven runs with two outs as they used seven hits (six singles), a walk and a wild pitch to take the lead.Ā
Ā
Lewis & Clark wouldn't go down without a fight. Ozuna doubled with one out in the top of the seventh and raced home on an Ancheta RBI single up the middle. With two outs, Patton singled to left and Campanella followed with an RBI single to center to bring the tying run to the plate. Chapman went to their bullpen and Cameron Burroughs induced a ground out to third to close out the game.Ā
Ā

The River Otters cut the deficit to 5-2 when Chapman committed an error on a Dahir grounder.
