Women’s Tennis Falls to Salisbury

The River Otters won two of three doubles matches, and Alex Mignogna won in three sets at No. 4 singles.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Lewis & Clark College women's tennis lost 5-2 to Salisbury University in a non-conference match on Wednesday at the L&C Tennis Dome.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Lewis & Clark won the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3, and first-year Alex Mignogna earned a win at fourth singles.
 
Salisbury's Gibelle Beaujon and Cleo Solomon opened doubles play with a 6-3 win over junior Charlotte Makoni and Mignogna at No. 1. Junior Maya Curry and sophomore Madi Vianzon pulled Lewis & Clark even at 1-1 with a 6-4 win over Olivia Hall and Evelyn Whiteside at No. 2. Sophomore Anna English and junior Emma Loucks then clinched the doubles point with a 7-6 (7-5) win over Ridgley Lake and Leah Osmon at No. 3.
 
Salisbury responded in singles play. Hall recorded the first singles result with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Curry at No. 3. Solomon followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win over English at No. 2, giving the Sea Gulls a 2-1 lead. Beaujon added a 6-1, 6-2 win over Makoni at No. 1 to extend the advantage to 3-1.
 
Mignogna earned Lewis & Clark's lone singles win at No. 4. After dropping the first set 3-6 to Lake, Mignogna took the second 6-2 and the third 6-4 to cut the deficit to 3-2.
 
Salisbury won the final two courts. Katherine Raab defeated Elle Garcia 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6, and Osmon beat Loucks 6-1, 7-5 at No. 5.
 
BY THE NUMBERS 
  • Mignogna improved to 3-1 at fourth singles with her second three-set win of the season.
  • Curry and Vianzon played their first doubles match together.
  • Salisbury of the Coast to Coast Conference is on an eight-match winning streak and defeated Northwest Conference members Puget Sound and Willamette earlier this week.
