Six Softball Players Named To All-Conference Team

Softball tied their program record with three First Team All-Conference honorees

HILLSBORO, Ore.—Six Lewis & Clark College softball student-athletes were named to the Northwest Conference All-Conference Team, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Seniors Maggie O'Leary, Emily Patton and Madison Scroggins carved out spot on the NWC First Team. First year Kodie Ancheta and senior Gina Ozuna were each named to the NWC Second Team. Junior Makena Dahir earned a spot on the NWC Third Team. The River Otters placed three players on the NWC First Team for just the second time in program history (2024). Lewis & Clark has only placed 12 players on the NWC First Team since the conference went to a First Team/Second Team format in 2005.

NWC Tournament Champions Linfield University (four), NWC Regular Season Champions Pacific Lutheran University (three) and Lewis & Clark combined to earn 10 of the 11 First Team All-Conference spots. The River Otters finished third in the conference with their six overall selections.

This year, the Northwest Conference changed how the All-Conference Teams were set up. Coaches voted for and chose the top-33 players in the conference, with the top-11 earning spots on the NWC First Team, without taking into account what position the student-athletes played. In past years, the All-Conference Teams were setup to reflect a typical softball team with one catcher, four infielders, three outfielders, a designated player, two pitchers and multiple at-large/utility spots on each of the three teams.

O'Leary earned her third career All-Conference award and was selected to the NWC First Team for the second time. The River Otters ace was named to the NWC First Team in 2024 and the NWC Second Team as a junior. She is one of two pitchers to earn spots on the NWC First Team. This season, O'Leary led Lewis & Clark in every major pitching category: wins (18-9), saves (two), shutouts (five), ERA (2.71), strikeouts (122), innings pitched (149.2), opponent's batting average (.259), games pitched/starts (30-22) and complete games (13). The senior finished in the top-five in the NWC in saves (t-1st), innings (second), shutouts (second), wins (third), strikeouts (third) and ERA (fifth). O'Leary currently ranks 10th in NCAA DIII in pitching appearances, 11th in wins and innings pitched, 22nd in shutouts, 25th in starts, 40th in strikeouts, 58th in saves and 88th in complete games.

She finished the season second in program history for a single-season in wins, strikeouts and complete games. She set new career personal-best for a single-season in shutouts, complete games and strikeouts. O'Leary posted a pair of wins over nationally-ranked teams. On March 14 in Atlanta, O'Leary allowed two runs in six innings of relief in a 4-2 win over #22 Emory University. The senior added 11 innings of relief and gave up just two runs (one earned) in a 13-inning win over host #3 Linfield University on April 11. She closed out her career as the program-record holder for career wins (57), shutouts (nine), saves (nine), strikeouts (385), innings pitched (485.1) and pitching appearances (112).
