PORTLAND, Ore.āLewis & Clark College Hall of Famer Mike Clock ('57) passed away on July 26, 2026 at the age of 90.Ā

Clock was inducted into the Lewis & Clark Hall of Fame in 1979 and received the Lifetime Sport & Achievement Award at the 2007 Lewis & Clark College Athletics Hall of Fame Ceremony. He also was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1988 and the Oregon Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2004.Ā

During his time on Palatine Hill, Clock competed in wrestling and football and won three conference championships. He won the heavyweight title in 1955 and 56 and took home the conference title at 191 pounds in 1957. Clock suffered the only three losses of his collegiate career at the NAIA National Championship Tournament. On the gridiron, he was a starting tackle and earned All-American Honorable Mention honors.Ā Ā

He would go on to serve as head coach of the wrestling program for three years (1963-65) and coached Harold Weight to the 1965 NAIA Wrestling National Title. Weight, who was inducted into the Lewis & Clark Hall of Fame in 1986, earned All-American honors in both of his seasons and only lost one match across his two seasons (the 1964 National Title match).Ā

Clock would spend the majority of his coaching career at Pacific University from 1966-2003. He worked with three National Champions and 37 All-Americans during his time with the Boxers. He led Pacific to a fifth-place finish at the 1982 NAIA National Championship Tournament.Ā

Clock's brothers Pat ('62) and Barry ('70) also competed in football and wrestling at Lewis & Clark and are members of the Lewis & Clark Hall Of Fame. Pat Clock was a member of the inaugural Lewis & Clark Hall of Fame Class in 1978 and Barry was inducted in 2014.Ā

Clock is survived by his brothers, Pat, Barry and Ken; his daughters, Kathryn Barlow and Mary; his sons, Thom and Paul; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol, in 1980.
A celebration of Clock's life is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, 2 p.m., in McCready Hall in the Taylor-Meade Performing Arts Center on Pacific's Forest Grove Campus. A reception will follow in the University Center.
