THE BASICS
George Fox 60, Lewis & Clark 46
(Lewis & Clark 2-15, Northwest Conference 1-7)Ā
(George Fox 7-10, Northwest Conference 4-4)Ā

HOW IT HAPPENED
Ā
Junior Karli Mukai scored a game-high 20 points and fellow junior Ashley Young added a career-high seven points to lead the Pioneers on Alumni Day.Ā
Ā
Earlier in the day, the Pioneers welcomed back over a dozen alumni and their families. The alumni came out in large numbers to watch the current Pioneers and made it a raucous atmosphere inside Pamplin.Ā
Ā

Mukai finished 6-17 from the field and hit four of the Pioneers seven 3-pointers (4-12). She also added a team-high four assists. Young went 3-6 from the field and hit a 3-pointer en-route to nearly doubling her previous career-high of four points.Ā
Ā
Junior Natalie Elstone returned from injury and finished with eight points and four rebounds. Senior Gabby Beltran led the hosts with eight rebounds and five steals.Ā
Ā
George Fox's Jenna Lacey, Claire Hinds and Ella Roberts all posted a team-best 13 points. Sophomore Alexa Borter tacked on eight points and a game-high 17 rebounds to help the visitors earn a 43-23 edge on the glass.Ā
Ā
Saturday's game got off to a slow start after an hour delay for the start time. The Bruins scored the first 10 points and held Lewis & Clark scoreless until Mukai drained a 3-pointer 6:12 into the quarter. Young added a 3-pointer of her own to help the Pioneers close the deficit to 10-6 after the first stanza.Ā
Ā
The Bruins would extend their advantage to 17-6 with a 7-0 run to begin the second. Lewis & Clark would have another answer though. The hosts held the Bruins to two points in the final 6:26 and Young and Elstone (3-pointer) made baskets to make it 19-11 George Fox at the half.Ā
Ā
Both teams heated up after the break. The Pios scored more points in the third quarter (16) than the first two quarters combined (11) but couldn't cut into the deficit as they went into the fourth down 36-27.Ā
Ā
George Fox would extend their lead to 17 early in the fourth and never let the Pioneers get any closer than 11 down the stretch.Ā

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Junior Charlotte Carroll finished with four points, six rebounds and three steals in the loss.Ā
  • The Pioneers forced 24 George Fox turnovers and committed just 14 of their own. Lewis & Clark turned that advantage into a 16-8 lead in points off turnovers.Ā
  • Lewis & Clark also owned a 12-2 lead in bench points.Ā
  • With her 20-point night, Mukai has now posted over twice as many points this season as she did in her first collegiate year. The junior posted 135 points in 476 minutes last year and is up to 273 points in 630 minutes this season.Ā Ā
WHO'S NEXTĀ
Ā
Lewis & Clark will have a quick turnaround, as they travel to Pacific University on Tuesday night at 6 p.m.Ā
