PORTLAND, Ore. — Lewis & Clark College women's basketball used an 8-0 run to close out the third quarter and outscored the Northwest Conference-leading team 15-10 in the frame, but No. 6 Whitman College held on for a 69-40 win Saturday at Pamplin Sports Center.

Whitman jumped out to an early lead, taking a 13-4 advantage after the first quarter and extending it to 37-16 at halftime.
Lewis & Clark found an offensive rhythm late in the third quarter, using an 8-0 run to outscore Whitman 15-10 in the period. Carns started the run with a layup at the 2:17 mark. Two made free throws by Frederickson and back-to-back layups by Kendrick closed out the stretch.
Whitman's balanced scoring attack proved too much to overcome, as Christiane Carlisle led all scorers with 19 points. Korin Baker added 18 points, and Carly Martin contributed 15 for the Blues.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Carns recorded a team-high four assists and three steals.
- The Pioneers shot 48% (12-of-25) in the middle quarters after going just 2-for-14 in the first.
- Bernard and Kendrick each grabbed two rebounds.
- Whitman is undefeated against NCAA DIII opponents and has won by an average of 23.3 points; their lone loss this season was to NAIA Lewis & Clark State College in Idaho, 57-47. The Blues closest game this season was a 59-55 NWC road win against George Fox University.
