Women’s Tennis Falls 5-2 at George Fox

Madi Vianzon and Alex Mignogna won at No. 3 doubles.

NEWBERG, Ore. -- Lewis & Clark College women's tennis fell 5-2 at George Fox University in Northwest Conference play on Saturday at the George Fox Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
First-year Alex Mignogna and sophomore Madi Vianzon won the lone doubles match at No. 3, while senior Susanna Anand and Vianzon each earned victories in singles play.
 
The Bruins opened doubles play with a 6-1 win at No. 1, where Riley Bobkiewicz and Shanah Denham defeated Anand and junior Charlotte Makoni. Mignogna and Vianzon pulled Lewis & Clark even at 1-1 with a 6-3 win over Audrey Gardner and Nicole Schnurbusch at No. 3. George Fox secured the doubles point when Juhree Kizziar and Sophie Denham defeated juniors Maya Curry and Emma Loucks 6-4 at No. 2.
 
George Fox added to its lead in singles play. Kizziar posted the first singles result with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Curry at No. 4. Shanah Denham followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Makoni at No. 2 to give the Bruins a 3-0 advantage.
 
Vianzon earned Lewis & Clark's first point with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Schnurbusch at No. 6. Anand then cut the deficit to 3-2 with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Bobkiewicz at No. 1 singles.
 
George Fox won the final two courts. Gardner defeated Mignogna 6-2, 7-5 at No. 5, and Sophie Denham beat sophomore Anna English 7-5, 6-0 at No. 3.

  • Anand has won two straight singles matches to improve to 8-1 at the top singles spot.
  • Vianzon has earned three consecutive wins in singles play to improve to 3-1 in NWC play.
