Ava Stewart finished 16
th in her collegiate debut, to lead Lewis & Clark women's cross country on Friday morning at the Lewis & Clark XC Opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Three Lewis & Clark student-athletes made their collegiate cross country debuts at the team's home and season opener.
Stewart moved up throughout the race to ultimately finish 16
th overall. She hit the 1K mark in 21
st, sat 20
th at the 2K checkpoint, 19
th after 3K and pushed up to 16
th at the 4K mark. The first year crossed the line in 19:52.1 to move into the top-50 in program history for fastest 5K times by a first year.
Junior
Talia Tomhave and sophomore
Eva Marley-Jester finished back-to-back. Tomhave sat in 24
th at the 3K mark before moving up three spots over the final two kilometers to place 21
st. Tomhave turned in a time of 20:34.0. Marley-Jester, who was making her collegiate debut, came across in 22
nd place with a time of 20:45.8.
Senior
Carolyn Mayberry and sophomore
Katherine Scannell finished as the team's fourth and fifth scorers. Mayberry sat in 38
th place after 4K, but crossed the line in 35
th overall with a time of 21:59.0. Scannell finished just behind Mayberry. The sophomore turned in a PR time of 22:06.7 to place 36
th.
Sophomore
Dagny Fenton placed sixth on the team. She registered a time of 24:31.7 to place 44
th overall.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Stewart led all NCAA DIII runners in the meet and finished 22.1 seconds ahead of the top-finisher from Pacific Lutheran University.
- Stewart, Marley-Jester and Fenton all made their collegiate cross country debuts on Friday.
- Stewart, Marley-Jester, Mayberry, Scannell and Fenton all posted their best collegiate 5K times.
- Stewart's time of 19:52.1 moves her into 33rd place in program history for the fastest 5K time by a women's first year.
- NAIA Lewis-Clark State (26 points) edged NCAA DI Portland State University (30 points) to win the team title.

Lewis & Clark will return to action next Friday, when they travel to Western Oregon University for the Ash Creek Invitational.
