The Pioneer women's basketball team fell 64-55 (box score) to the
Corban College Warriors Tuesday night in Salem. Talerra Rich had 18
points to lead the Pioneers.
The shorthanded Pioneers jumped out to a hot start, shooting
53.8% in the first half, including a halftime buzzer beating
three-pointer by Crystal Castle (senior, Rocklin, Calif.) to put up
34 points in the first half. The Pioneer defense helped keep the
Corban offense on ice, with the Warriors shooting 21.2% from the
field in the first half, hitting just 7 of 33 field goal attempts.
After the break, the tables were turned. The Pioneers could get
nothing to fall and Corban didn't miss, starting the half on a 20-7
run to tie the game 41-41. Corban shot 63.0% in the second half,
with the Pioneers going 9-30 (30.0%). With the game tied 51-51 with
6:38 remaining, Corban hit a three-pointer then put together
back-to-back defensive stops to turn the tide and begin building a
lead. They held on for a 64-55 victory.
Talerra Rich (sophomore, Los Alamos, N.M.) scored 18 points to
lead the Pioneers. Crystal Castle scored 17 points with six
rebounds. Allison Farr (senior, Lakeport, Calif.) scored ten points
with eight rebounds, four assists, and two blocks.
With the loss, the Pioneers pull even at 3-3 on the season. They
are back in action on Saturday evening when they take on the
Concordia Cavaliers at 5:30 pm. Live play-by-play for the game will
