Eight Track & Field Student-Athletes Garner All-Region Accolades

Seniors Malia Heien and Elsie Chin each earned two All-Region awards

NEW ORLEANS, La.—Eight Lewis & Clark track & field student-athletes were named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) West All-Region Team, the USTFCCCA announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Six individuals and the women's 4x400M Relay were recognized for finishing the outdoor season ranked in the top-eight in the West Region. Three River Otters garnered their first career All-Region accolades.

Seniors Malia Heien and Elsie Chin led the River Otters with two All-Region awards apiece. Senior Miriam Reside and junior Callow Soto joined Heien and Chin on the All-Region Team as the final two members of the women's 4x400M Relay Team. Senior Jon Fritz and juniors Keegan Zaso, Emil Miller and Harrison Fung all represented the men's team on the All-Region Team.

The women's 4x400M Relay Team earns All-Region honors as a group for the second time. The quartet of Chin, Reside, Soto and Heien ran the fastest time in program history at the Northwest Conference Championship Meet to finish third overall and earn All-Conference honors. Their time (3:57.41) broke the previous record, set at the 2024 NWC Championship Meet, by 0.66 seconds. The 4x400M Relay team ended the Spring Season ranked eighth in the West Region. During the indoor season, this same group earned All-Region accolades in the Distance Medley Relay. Reside and Soto each picked up their second career All-Region awards.

Heien closes out her career by earning the 13th and 14th All-Region awards of her collegiate career. The senior was recognized in the 800M for the sixth time in eight seasons and third time in outdoor track. Heien, who won the 800M and 1,500M at the Northwest Conference Championship Meet, posted the fourth-fastest time in the West Region. She ran a 2:13.91 at the Larry Byerly Invitational – which marked the fourth-fastest time of her career. She wraps up her career as a two-time NWC Champion, a three-time National Championship qualifier, a 14-time All-Region honoree and a 15-time All-Conference award winner.

Chin collects her first career individual All-Region award and the second and third honors of her career. The senior ran the fastest time in program history in the 400M Hurdles at the NWC Championship Meet to garner All-Region accolades. Chin crossed the line in 1:03.41 to break Emily Thompson's ('16) program record (1:03.91) that had stood since 2014. She placed third overall to earn First Team All-Conference honors and finish fourth in the West Region. Chin ends her career with three All-Region honors and seven career All-Conference accolades.

Zaso took home his first career All-Region honors after winning his first career NWC Title in the Triple Jump. The junior posted the fifth-best jump in program history on April 17 at the L&C Larry Byerly Invitational. He leapt 14.16M (46-05.50 Feet) to improve his previous career-best mark by over two inches. Zaso posted a winning mark of 13.96M (45-09.75 Feet) to win his first NWC Title. The junior finished fifth overall in the West Region in the event. He enters his senior season as a three-time All-Conference honoree and a one-time All-Region award winner.

Miller put together a breakout junior season to earn his first career All-Region award. He earned his first two All-Conference accolades and set PRs in 12 different events during the 2025-26 academic year. Miller ran the seventh-fastest time in school history in the 3,000M Steeplechase at the NWC Championship Meet, to place second overall and earn his first career All-Conference award. Miller crossed the line in 9:21.94 to place sixth in the West Region.

Fung was the lone men's honoree to be a repeat award winner. The junior hurdler placed seventh in the West Region in the 400M Hurdles - to be recognized in the event for the second-straight season. He ran a season-best time of 54.91 at the Eldon & Chuck Throw Down in early March, before suffering an injury that kept him out for over a month.  He returned in late April and placed fourth at the NWC Championship to earn Second Team All-Conference honors. He enters his senior season as a four-time All-Conference honoree and a two-time All-Region award winner.

Fritz closes out his career with his first career All-Region award. The senior bookended his career with All-Conference honors, after placing third overall at the NWC Championship Meet in the Triple Jump. Despite never competing in the event prior to this season, Fritz posted the sixth-best mark in program history at the Linfield Jenn Boyman Memorial Invitational, when he posted a leap of 13.99M (45-10.75 Feet). He registered a mark of 13.68M at the NWC Championship Meet to place third and earn his first All-Conference honors since his first season (110M Hurdles – 3rd Place).
